Rugged, 30W DC/DC Converter for Railway Video Monitoring and Wireless Networks

The RWF 30 is a rugged DC/DC converter designed for low power railway applications including video monitoring and wireless networks. It is also suitable for operation in industrial, mining, oil rig, military and other harsh environments.

This 30W converter provides single outputs of either 12V or 24Vdc. It can be powered from a 24V, 36V, 48V, 72V or 110Vdc input with standard EN 50155 supply voltage ranges. Other input and output voltages are available on request.

The design is a simplified version of the 100W and 200W railway series, and was carefully optimized for low power applications. It has significantly reduced component count; the use of components with field-proven reliability and the large design headroom contribute to the very high reliability of the unit.

The RWF 30 is fully protected on the input and output and complies with the requirements of
EN 50155 for electronic equipment used on railway rolling stock. It also meets EN 50121-3-2 (EMI and EMC) and EN 55022 Class B EMI, with wide margins. This unit features up to 90% efficiency, depending on the input/output configuration.

Full encapsulation in a thermally conductive MIL-spec. silicon rubber compound ensures immunity to shock, vibration, humidity, moisture, salt and airborne contaminants. Conduction cooled via a base plate, the unit is capable of operating in temperatures of up to +85°C, cold plate. This compact, cost effective design is housed in a 2.3” x 7.1” 2.4” enclosure.

Other rugged, single output converters in Absopulse Electronics’ encapsulated railway series include the RWY 15, RWY 150, RWY 200, RWY 250 and RWY 280; dual output versions include the RWY 72, RWY 272, RWY 272, RWY 282 and the RWD 200. Custom versions for all of these converters are available.
